    0

Kick off the Summer of Love’s 50th Anniversary celebration, 7–9 p.m., June 17 at the Museum of Ventura County, with a special showing of the Monterrey Pop International Festival documentary directed by D.A. Pennebaker.

Widely regarded as having kicked off the Summer of Love IN 1967, the Monterrey Pop International Festival became known for hosting the first major American appearances by the Jimi Hendrix Experience, the Who and Ravi Shankar, as well as the first large-scale public performance of Janis Joplin and the introduction of Otis Redding.

Bring your poncho and folding chair, and don’t forget to wear your bellbottoms.

The Museum is located at 100 Main Street, Ventura. Doors open at 6 p.m. Admission is $10 for members, $15 for non-members. A no host bar is available. For more information, visit www.venturamuseum.org.
