A Unique Storytelling Experience Showcasing Family and Community History at Heritage Square Oxnard

    0

During the event, there will be screenings of the documentary film, Oxnard 1961, created by Dr. Ted Greathouse. Copies of this DVD will be for sale on the day-of the event.

“My Oxnard Memories Day” will bring together the entire community to share stories contained in their family photographs in an exciting, multimedia community photo-sharing event.

The public is invited to share their stories and images of people whose contributions to the community help make up the City of Oxnard. These are the individuals who put that special “something” into making their community a strong, vibrant and welcoming place for all. These are the unsung heroes whose extraordinary presence puts the heart and soul into the very idea of community. These are real folks, maybe someone in your family, a relative, a friend, a neighbor, a business or business person, or a Good Samaritan who touched your life in a way that made a difference to you, to your block, to your neighborhood. There will be special guests, music, t-shirt and other souvenirs, as well as refreshments for purchase.

Uncover, illuminate, educate and entertain participants about their hidden history as captured in their family photo albums, creating in essence a “people’s history” of our world. To upload your own photographs and stories, just upload a favorite photo of someone special to you using the hashtag #MyOxnardMemories on Instagram or Twitter.

We are asking for the community to donate items from “Today” that represent our community at large, such as movies, two-dimensional, and three-dimensional pieces to be interned in a new time capsule to be buried at a later date. Suggestions should be submitted before or on the day of “My Oxnard Memories” in the form of a two-dimensional photograph with description or story behind the item. The two-dimensional piece may be uploaded to #MyOxnardMemories, submitted by email to [email protected], or hard copy to the Heritage Square Visitor Center, 715 South A Street, Oxnard, CA 93030.

Details and updates about the event may be found at the Heritage Square website, HeritageSquareOxnard.com.
