Assemblymember Irwin Responds to Governor Brown’s May Revise

(Sacramento, CA) – “Governor Brown’s May Budget Revision reflects California’s growing economy, now the 5th largest in the world. This budget proposes the largest rainy day reserves in modern state budget history, increasing K-12 education and community college funding, and new funding to combat homelessness and improve mental health services.

While the May revision includes $200 million for maintenance and repairs at CSU and UC campuses, it doesn’t fully fund the needs of students and universities. During the last weeks of budget negotiations we must find a way to keep tuition costs stable and admit all students who are prepared under our state’s Master Plan for Higher Education. Investing more in our world-renowned system of advanced learning is one of our state’s best tools to expand our workforce and promote economic activity.”
