Cabrillo Music Theatre coordinates ‘Adopt-A-Bus’ effort to introduce at-need children to live theater

For its second year, Cabrillo Music Theatre, the resident, professional theatre production company of the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, has launched its “Adopt-A-Bus” campaign — an effort that brings together the community to sponsor buses to transport at-risk/at-need children to attend a live theater performance.”.

This year, the regional theater company has partnered with several Boys and Girls Clubs, Safe Passages and Casa Pacifica to accommodate six buses — bringing a total of over 300 children — at its Wednesday matinee performance of Peter Pan on July 19 at 1 p.m.

“The companies that sponsored these buses are really the ones that deserve all of the recognition,” said Cindy Murray, Cabrillo Music Theatre’s secretary of the board. “They provide the sponsorship for these children, who might not otherwise have access, to attend the performance at no cost, and we’re so grateful for their support and their help in bringing the arts to children in our community.”

Each of this year’s sponsors contributed to cover one bus full of children and, in addition to Cabrillo Music Theatre board members, include ColourPop, Alderman Bushe Interiors, Ron and Claudia de la Pena, James Engel and The Sleep Shoppe. In exchange for their sponsorship, each sponsor will receive recognition from the stage, a signed cast photo, and two complimentary orchestra seats to Peter Pan and a VIP pre-show event.

Following Peter Pan, which runs for 10 performances from July 14-23, Cabrillo Music Theatre will begin its 2017-18 season in October, featuring Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and the newly announced Beauty and the Beast.
