Student jazz musicians from California Lutheran University will present a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 4, in Overton Hall on the Thousand Oaks campus.

Under director Uziel Colon, the Jazz Collective will play straight-ahead jazz selections as well as Latin, funk and R&B. They will also perform original arrangements of songs made famous by Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Irakere, Sonny Rollins, Michael Jackson and others.

The student performers are theater arts major Libby Baumgartner of Minnesota, marketing communication major Dianna Rohrer of Chino and biology major Joshua Rouimi of Westlake Village on alto sax; biochemistry and molecular biology major Cory Cranston of Santa Clarita and music major Patrick Hagerty of Valencia on guitar; music production major Lucas Frankel of Porter Ranch on drums; music production majors Paul Kellogg of La Crescenta and Cole MacPherson of Simi Valley and multimedia major Joey Luau of Alhambra on piano; computer science and mathematics major Armando Santana of Pomona on baritone sax; and music major Caleb Solberg of Florida on tenor sax. Torrance Klein, a Thousand Oaks resident who completed a bachelor’s degree in music production last year, will play bass.

Colón is a pianist and composer whose repertoire ranges from piano improvisations in Latin jazz to commercial pop, salsa rhythms and gospel. The Studio City resident has performed at events including the Heineken JazzFest in Puerto Rico, the Beantown Jazz Fest in Boston, CJW in Beijing and the MadaJazzcar Festival in Madagascar. He works for The Latin Recording Academy and composes, arranges and produces music for television shows and independent artists.

Overton Hall is located south side of Memorial Parkway and west of Regent Avenue.
