Cal State Channel Islands employee sentenced for misappropriation of Public Funds

clinic arial, try sans-serif;”>Arjelia Guillen of Oxnard, was sentenced to 90 days in Ventura County jail, 36 months formal probation and search terms after pleading guilty to one felony count of misappropriation of public funds in violation of Penal Code section 424, subdivision (a).

Guillen was employed as the disability resource program coordinator for California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI). Guillen’s responsibilities included hiring students and non-students to serve as note takers for disabled CSUCI students. In April 2014, CSUCI staff learned Guillen misappropriated public funds by authorizing the issuance of checks to family members under the pretext they performed note taking services for CSUCI, when in fact they had not.

Prior to sentencing, Guillen paid full restitution in the amount of $243. Based on the conviction, she is disqualified from holding any public office in this state.
