Camarillo: New CERT Training begins on September 12th

    0

Camarillo’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) begins another series of classes on Tuesday, September 12; CERT classes are held at the Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD) training center at Camarillo Airport.  All area residents who are at least 18 years of age are invited to participate in this valuable free program.

CERT is taught by members of the VCFD, and instruction includes triage, first aid, extinguishing fires, search and rescue, cribbing (to remove injured persons from beneath heavy objects), terrorism response, and more.  During emergencies, fire and law enforcement personnel may request the services of CERT-trained residents.

Classes will be held weekly, on Tuesday evenings, from September 12 – October 17, at 6:30.  The final field course (photo below) will be held on Saturday, October 21.

Everyone who participates in CERT training receives a backpack with the course manual, a vest, field gloves, helmet, goggles, flashlight, and a Camarillo CERT T-shirt.  Since CERT is funded by the Department of Homeland Security, training and materials are provided to participants at no charge.

If you would like to register for the CERT course, please contact Heidi Zahrt at 383-5688, or at [email protected].
