Camarillo Vehicle Burglaries (Vehicle Batteries Targeted)

Ventura County Sheriff – Incident Press Release

The Camarillo Police Department is seeking the public’s help in identifying suspect(s) who are committing vehicle burglaries and targeting vehicle batteries. The vehicles being targeted have been Honda Civics and Toyota Corollas ranging from 1994-2013.

On 09-11-18, a red Kia Rio was captured on video surveillance in the 1100 block of Ponderosa Drive in Camarillo. The vehicle backed into a parking spot next to another vehicle. A short time later, the owner of the parked vehicle reported a theft of a vehicle battery. Unfortunately, the video surveillance did not capture the suspect(s) committing the crime. However, we have knowledge that a similar vehicle, red Kia Rio, has been involved in multiple vehicle battery thefts in multiple jurisdictions.

There have been a total of eight vehicle battery theft reports in Camarillo since 9-11-18. The suspect(s) vehicle is described as a red Kia Rio with no plates, tinted windows, and a small white sticker on the bottom passenger side of the windshield.

Anyone with information regarding the vehicle and/or identity of the suspect(s) involved are asked to call Camarillo Detectives at (805) 388-5151.

In these cases, the suspect(s) only targeted the vehicle batteries and did not force entry into the compartment area of the vehicle. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the public to always lock their cars and do not store anything of value inside. “Lock it, hide it, keep it.”
