Charges may be filed in Moorpark Heroin Overdose

On 6/11/2017, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department responded to the 11000 block of Red Barn Road in the unincorporated area of Moorpark reference a medical emergency. When deputies arrived, they discovered an 27 year old adult male who was unresponsive. A friend of the victim, 28 year old Steven Walker, was present when deputies arrived and provided information to deputies that the victim was suffering from a heroin overdose. Personnel from the Ventura County Fire Department and Paramedics arrived at the location and determined the victim was suffering from a heroin overdose. They performed life saving measures to revive the victim for the overdose and transported him to the hospital for further evaluation and treatment. The victim was treated and later released from the hospital.

Narcotics detectives with the Sheriff’s East County Street Team took over the investigation. They conducted a short investigation that included the service of a search warrant at Walker’s residence on Red Barn Road. Detectives were able to determine that Walker had provided the heroin for the victim to use and had possibly injected the victim with the heroin.

On 7/5/2017, Walker was contacted by narcotic detectives as he arrived home. Walker was arrested shortly thereafter and booked at the East County Jail in Thousand Oaks for sale of a controlled substance.

On 7/6/2017, the case was presented the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office for review. At this time, a violation of sale of a controlled substance was filed against Walker. Additional charges may be filed pending a complete review of this investigation by the District Attorney’s Office.
