    Questions for Julia Brownley
     .
    1. Why did it take until June 13, 2017, to pass the Department of Veterans Affairs Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act of 2017
Julia Brownley has been in office since 2012, and under her watch there has been no accountability for malpractice, poor treatment, and neglect of veterans seeking care. In fact, she voted against giving the Secretary of Veteran Affairs more flexibility to discipline employees on March 16, 2017!
      .
    2. Why do veterans continue to suffer at the hands of the VA? The VA budget has increased from $58.8 billion to $186.5 Billion from 2012-2018, yet roughly 20 suicides per day among veterans as they continue to wait for care. In 2015, CNN reported more than 1,600 veterans waited between 60 and 90 days for appointments at facilities operated by the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System. About 400 veterans waited six months for an appointment. In September 2015, the VA Inspector General released a review of alleged mismanagement at the VA’s Health Eligibility Center. According to the review, more than 307,000 deceased veterans were listed as enrollees with pending VA applications. The inspector general calculated that about 35% of all pending records were for deceased veterans.
      .
    3. Why so much bureaucracy in the VA?
The VAs workforce is represented by no less than five unions: The American Federation of Government Employees, the National Association of Government Employees, National Nurses United, the National Federation of Federal Employees and the Service Employees International Union. The Washington Examiner released an article in 2017 that found 346 employees in the Department of Veteran Affairs spend their entire time doing work on behalf of their union while drawing a federal salary. Sherman Gillums, of the Paralyzed Veterans of America, stated in a 2017 interview, “Middle management is the biggest issue that needs to be cleaned up immediately, if anything else is going to change.”
      .
    4. Why not increase privatization of care?
survey by the Concerned Veterans of America published in 2017 found 99% of veterans find it important for that lawmakers in Washington to improve the way in which health care services are provided to U.S. veterans and 54% of veterans think the health care received at VA facilities is worse than the health care that most Americans receive. The 2017 Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America survey found that 91% of veterans support extension of the Choice Program.
We can only make change by fixing the problem.
Julia Brownley has some questions to answer!
