The Making of a Great Oxnard City Clerk

The Making of a Great Oxnard City Clerk

By Peter K. Godinez, Ambassador to Public Sector, SoCal Office Technologies – A Xerox Company The position of the City of Oxnard Clerk plays such a vital role in the success of the city. Yet its importance has been overlooked compared to the other offices in this largest city municipality in the tri-counties of California (Ventura, Santa Barbara and […]

I strongly disagree with CJ’s policy of allowing partial names or pseudonyms to be used by letter writers. If you can’t put your name to your opinions then please keep your opinions to yourself.

Steve: This is an event cosponsored by CitizensJournal. Sponsor orgs. are all identified.

As to the reader commenters, maybe you have a point. Vicious comments and innuendos by anonymous cowards are an annoyance. We’ll take it up with our board.

I think you have a typo on the moderator email address – I am guessing it should be gmail.

Other than that – THANKS for all this!

It does say gmail, so not sure what you mean.

    Interested Citizen,

Good Evening, I am Richard L. moderator and one of the main organizers of this forum. I appreciate your feedback and concern as to if this event will be biased based on who you see participating and or sponsoring this evening gathering.

The heartbeat behind this forum is to provide a platform for all candidates to be respected, valued as citizens of our beautiful city and offered the opportunity to express why they feel they are the best candidate for the position they are running for. It will also give us (the People) an opportunity to hear them answer some questions that will be selected for this evening which is why we are soliciting the questions.

We believe, Oxnard has its brightest days ahead of it and are excited for the future.

    Blessings

CitizensJournal.us has sponsored only two other events in its history: a photo contest and a land use session. This is our first-ever election event. We did it because these positions haven’t had a really contested election in a long time, they are largely unknown to the public and are critical for future city success.

No one at CitizensJournal.us is a Jones supporter.

So far, our sponsorship has involved going to one meeting, paying for ads and writing/publishing stuff like this event notice you responded to, contacting candidates and some phone conversations.

We fully disclosed all committee members and sponsors. Not all candidate forums do that.

Mayor Pro Tem Ramirez and Councilman Perello merely donated money and have not been involved in the event planning. There were a couple of phone conversations with sponsor Mr. Multihill, who has not otherwise been involved so far.

A moderator from the faith community was selected who has no connection to any of the campaigns. He alone will make the final decision on questions to be asked.

We’re not sure why being on the homelessness Commission is a disqualifier for being on the committee, other than Mr. Jones formerly being on it. Here are the current members:

    Francine Castañon (Commission Chair)
    Lucy Cartagena Martinez (Vice-Chair)
    Susan Brinkmeyer
    Darlene Miller-Gonzalez
    Francisco Jaena
    David Courtland
    Yukio Okano

Jones and Rivera were formerly on the Homelessness Commission. Ron Mulvihill is a consultant who wrote a report for the Homelessness Commission. Only Rivera has been involved with the Jones campaign.

Participants and the public have been asked to contribute suggested candidate questions. Interested Citizens are urged to send them to the moderator, Richard Linares, at WeLoveOxnard@gmal.com.

Is this an Al Jones sponsored event? Or an Oxnard Homeless committee event? I was under the impression that CJ events are un-biased and allow full disclosure of transparency when it comes to all candidates. Three of the event sponsors worked directly with Mr. Jones on the Homeless committee and two of the event committee members work on his current campaign. Not a very impartial forum for the candidates if you ask me…..
