Ed Garcia of Moorpark College recognized as a 2017 VC Innovates Pathfinder

Moorpark College Ed Garcia, faculty, was recognized by VC Innovates as a 2017 VC Innovates Pathfinder of the Year honoree for his role in support of Career and Technical Education.  One of 25 recognized at the organization’s annual award luncheon recently held at the Spanish Hills Country Club in Camarillo, CA, this award celebrates talented leaders in education, business and community service who have made significant contributions in building pathways to employment for Ventura County students.

Garcia has taught in the Computer Network Systems Engineering (CNSE) department at Moorpark College since 2001 – teaching courses in Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA, VMware, Mysql, PHP, Linux, Protocols and Scripting languages.  He discovered his love for teaching while working with at-risk students at Southern California Edison, where he worked for 20 years as a network specialist, programmer, automation analyst, security analyst and Technical Specialist.  Since joining Moorpark College, Garcia has helped build a new CNSE program that now offers more than 13 courses that lead to industry certifications and jobs in computer networking.

“In 2016, more than twenty CNSE students completed internships leading to employment in Ventura County,” stated Moorpark College President Luis Sanchez.  “This honor is a testament to Garcia’s dedication to preparing students with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in technology-related careers.  He is driven by his love for teaching and technology,” added Sanchez.

Garcia graduated summa cum laude from American Intercontinental University in 2008 with a Master of Science in information technology. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in computer information systems from California State University, Los Angeles.
