6th Annual Rendezvous At The Zoo | Moorpark College, America’s Teaching Zoo

Moorpark College honors Wildlife Waystation founder Martine Colette

Moorpark College America’s Teaching Zoo, Exotic Animal Training and Management (EATM) program and the Moorpark College Foundation is hosting the sixth annual Rendezvous at the Zoo, Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017, from 5-9 p.m., on the college campus at 7075 Campus Road, Moorpark, CA.  An unforgettable evening of “FriendRaising Under the Stars” honoring Martine Colette, founder and director of The Wildlife Waystation (WW), will highlight this year’s event.  With more than 40 years of hands-on experience, Colette has rescued, rehabilitated and provided a permanent sanctuary to more than 76,000 wild and exotic animals at the WW, located on 160 acres in the Angeles National Forest in Southern California.

“Rendezvous at the Zoo is one of EATM’s most beloved annual events.  More than a fundraiser, it is a celebration that draws approximately 225 guests each year for a magical evening of entertainment with a purpose,” stated Moorpark College President Luis Sanchez.  “This year, we are honored to recognize Wildlife Waystation founder Martine Colette for four decades of service in wildlife and exotic animal care and education,” said Sanchez.

“This year’s Rendezvous will be a huge step towards meeting our financial goals for kicking off our zoo improvements.  I am calling on everyone in the community to listen to our hopes for the future so they can SEE the change and BE the change,” said Mara Rodriguez, EATM zoo operations technician.

Sponsored by Malibu Wine Safaris, guests will enjoy animal encounters and student presentations and have the opportunity to support EATM through a silent auction. Proceeds will be used to expand and improve the naturalistic habitat of Ira (the lion) and other big-cat residents at the zoo.  Hors d’oeuvres will also be served.

America’s Teaching Zoo at Moorpark College has more than 120 animals that include an African lioness, spotted hyena and many other exotic and endangered animals that are cared for by students in the EATM program.  Graduates of the EATM program are working all over the world fulfilling their goal to work with animals.

Advance tickets may be purchased online for $55 plus a $1 processing fee until midnight Oct. 11, 2017.  Admission at the door is $70.  Attendees must be 21 years or older.  For additional information, please call 805-378-1441.  To learn more about Martine Colette, please visit Wildlife Waystation online
