Simi Valley, CA: In response to a critical low in blood donations in the Ventura County, , The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS)  in conjunction with United Blood Services (UBS) is hosting a blood drive on Tuesday November 14, 2017.  The drive will be 3:00 pm -7:30 p.m. at 480 Sinaloa Road, Simi Valley, Ca 93065.  A thanksgiving food drive for our local food bank will also be hosted same night.  Drop off at the site of the blood drive.

Easy sign up can be found online at http://www.blood4life.org using sponsor code 8043.

The Drive is looking to accommodate over 100 donors, and is in conjunction with a canned food drive to help our local food banks, for thanksgiving baskets.  We are asking everyone bring a non perishable item to donation to TLC Food Share, on Nov 14th to the Blood drive location.

“We are especially in need of O Negative donors this drive,” States Cherie Whitaker, LDS Church, Public Affairs Coordinator” but we will take everyone.   The need has reached critical status.  We also offer the opportunity for Double Blood Donors where by the plasma is returned, taking about 40 minutes, but less chance of it effecting you.” “We are asking everyone bring a non perishable item to donation to TLC Food Share, on Nov 14th to the Blood drive location.”

Historically, the reserve of blood supply in the U.S. is lowest during the holiday months sometimes critically low. Donors are less likely to take the time to give blood during the busy holiday season.  That does not stop the massive need for hospitals that need a daily supply for emergency rooms.   Yet blood supply is something people tend to take for granted the need for blood is constant.  Hospitals have the lifesaving blood they need only because people take the time to donate and because organizations like United Blood Services are constantly at work behind the scenes to collect process and distribute those blood donations

You can donate whole blood every 56 days. If you’re healthy, your body very quickly replenishes the small amount of blood you lose as a result of your donation. Youth 16 and over allowed (16 year old age need ID and parents permission).   Picture ID required on all donors. You must weigh at least 110 pounds and be in generally good health to donate.   During your appointment, a nurse will check your temperature, cholesterol, blood pressure, pulse and hemoglobin level to further ensure that you can safely donate.  You are asked to drink plenty of water and have a full meal before you donate.

All donors will be given a special treat by Sub Zero Ice Cream after their donation.  Sub Zero uses the science of cryogenics to freeze your ice cream instantly before your eyes!  You really do have it your way, without all the chemicals.   They offer soy, almond and coconut milk, dairy and non dairy mixtures with a multitude of flavors and additives.

For more information, please contact Cherie Whitaker, coordinator, at 805 813-1500 or cherielynnae@sbcglobal,net . Be a Hero. Make an appointment today or bring a non perishable food item to the drive site.
