Taxpayers in California may be given an opportunity to direct a portion of their tax dollars to nonprofit organizations starting this year.

On February 16, 2018, California State Senator Mike Morrell (R-Rancho Cucamonga) introduced the California Universal Charitable Credit (UCC), which allows a California taxpayer to direct up to $500.00 of their state income taxes to nonprofits that provide public services instead.

Unlike a deduction, which is often no more than 25% of the donation, the credit is dollar-for-dollar.  For every dollar that California taxpayers donate to nonprofits, one dollar will be taken off of their state tax bill.

We Do Better modeled the UCC after the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit (ACTC), which has been in effect in the state of Arizona since 1997.  In 2015, over 130,000 Arizonians used the ACTC to send over $36 million to nonprofit organizations in Arizona.

We Do Better’s Dan Johnson is our Guest Speaker

    Dan Johnson

    We Do Better Executive Director

Dan Johnson, 24, is the founder or 3 nationwide nonprofit organizations.

At age 18, Dan founded People Against the NDAA (PANDA), which became one of the largest civil liberties organizations in America, and passed laws protecting the right to trial by jury in 7 cities and counties. After PANDA, he founded the Solutions Institute (SI), the first nonpartisan activist training center in the United States. As President of SI, he brought local, national, and international media attention to dozens of protests and rallies, and helped dozens more organizations enact, defeat, and raise awareness about public policies. Dan is a frequent guest on national and local radio, TV, and news columns.

We Do Better, founded by Dan and his team in October 2017, aims to improve access to and quality of public services in communities across the nation by allowing taxpayers to direct a portion of their tax dollars to organizations that fill critical gaps in public services.

“Public services of acceptable quality are often not available to Californians who need them the most. Yet we know there are many nonprofit organizations in the state that already provide excellent services to their communities. Empowering the people of California to direct their resources to those organizations that ‘Do Better’ is key to ensuring every person has access to the services they need” Dan said.

    Membership

Your renewal will allow us to accomplish our schedule of activities this year. We continue to hold our basic membership at $35 annually to encourage maximum participation from the community.  I am hoping, however, that you will consider a sponsorship at the $50, $100, $250 or $500 levels.  Associate members $25.00  Students $20.00

Did you know that nearly half of every basic membership fee goes directly to fund the county, state and national federated organizations?  That leaves little for our club to, host programs and speakers, sponsor military support, fund College Republican Club scholarships, and other community events.

Your involvement and support of the Malibu/Bel Air Republican Women’s Federated is greatly appreciated.  We couldn’t do it without you!
