From Brendan McMullin, Director: I am excited to let you know about some wonderful musical performances taking place this weekend at the Moorpark College Performing Arts Center. Moorpark College is hosting its first Moorpark Jazz Day this Saturday from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Part I will occur from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM and will feature the Chaparral Middle School, Mesa Verde Middle School, and Moorpark High School jazz ensembles. Part II will occur from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM and will feature the jazz big bands and combos from Moorpark College (the Moorpark College Jazz A Band won first place at the Reno Jazz Festival two weeks ago). We are excited to welcome Karl Hunter (best known for his work with the band Big Bad Voodoo Daddy) as our guest artist throughout the day. Tickets for Part I are $10 for adults and $8 for students, seniors, children, and staff. They can only be purchased with cash at the event. Tickets for Part II only are $15 for adults and $10 for students, seniors, children, and staff and can be purchased with a credit card or on the web. Tickets for the entire day (when purchased together on the day of the event) are $20 for adults and $16 for students, seniors, children, and staff.

On the following day, Sunday, May 4th at 2:00 PM the Moorpark College Wind Ensemble will have their season ending concert. We are honored to welcome guest composer John Frantzen, whose modern epic composition “Catalyst” the Wind Ensemble will be performing. Also included in the program will be a performance of the entire classic Russian masterpiece “Pictures at an Exhibition” by Modest Mussorgsky.

Tickets are cheaper if you order them online ahead of time at http://www.moorparkcollege.edu/PAC. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to support your local music scene and hear one of today’s top performing artists. Thank you and I hope to see you there.
