A new group recently formed in the community of Simi Valley is bringing the faith community together with a mission to serve.   The council was created to develop and carry out non profit activities and community service that demonstrate a common mutual respect and support for all faiths, while assisting those seeking a more spiritual objective.  The initial group meeting was in June of 2017 had.  More outreach is planned to increase the community awareness and participation in this council.

A special Interfaith Devotional Event will be held on July 29th 2017, at the Simi Valley Senior Center, Rooms 106-7 (West Entrance of the center) from 2:00 o’clock to 4:00 o’clock pm with Kent Alkire, Simi Valley Interfaith Community Council Coordinator officiating.    Presentations from the Zoroastrian, Temple B’nai Emmet, Christianity, Islamic Society of Simi Valley, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Buddhist, Center for Spiritual Living and the Baha’i Faith will be represented.  The event will be spiritual, artful, visual, musical and informative.  It will not be a proselytizing, critical of others faith nor political. The public is invited and it is free.  Space is limited.  The vision for this event is to be a joyful, unifying, friendship-building event.

“Our purpose is really that of service,” Alkire remarks. “We also want to be a model that people of diverse religious backgrounds could come together in our community and be able to further and benefit all of mankind. The goal of the group is to serve the community, not to proselytize.

We decided we are all kindred spirits brought together,  advocating the Golden Rule to “To Treat Our Fellow Man As We Wish To Be Treated.”

One of the goals of the Interfaith Council will be to become actively involved in community service projects.  It hopes to bridge and support those faiths and minorities under fire, while bringing together people in a spiritual commune.

The next Simi Valley Interfaith Community Council meeting will be held on August 15th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 480 Sinaloa Rd, Simi Valley, CA 93065 at 7:00 o’clock pm.   All faith leaders are invited to attend.
