So the Supreme Court considers that the federal government is as much a ‘state’ as are Arkansas, Texas and Wyoming. Or maybe they mean that the federal government IS THE state. It is evocative of Mussolini’s fascist maxim “All within the state, nothing outside the state, nothing against the state.”

This is not what the framers of the Constitution intended. The federal government was created by the states; the states are not merely administrative departments of the national government. It is dishonest at the very least to govern de facto as if the federal government were sovereign over the several states without a constitutional amendment, which would never pass if it were explicitly proposed.
There is a reason that states were established as sovereign, which has been vindicated by the historic success of the liberty and prosperity of the United States over other top-down hierarchical models, such as French Napoleonic law.  In France, there is a national government and the country is carved up into administrative departments which take their marching order from the revolutionary heirs to the Sun King Louis Quatorze.  Among the poorest states in the western hemisphere are the legacy French colonies: Louisiana, Quebec and Haiti. We follow the top-down hierarchical model at our peril.
One is also given to wonder: why did the Democrats even bother to write 2,700 pages to comprise the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in 2009, if words may mean whatever the dominant political power deems them to mean in the moment? No more than 27 words would have been necessary: “The United States shall establish a system of financing and regulating health care markets and services as the Most Supreme Leader and his wise czars judge best.” End of story. No more partisan bickering, no wasted resources tying up the Supreme Court’s valuable time, no Republican obstructionism possible.

It is past time to elect conservative Republican leaders who will pass and sign clear, unambiguous legislation in unrelenting increments to take our country back to constitutional liberty. Our lives depend upon it.
