    Holiday in the Park & Book Signing Event

    A family holiday event is scheduled on Sunday, Dec. 8th from Noon to 3 p.m. at Strathearn Historical Park & Museum in Simi Valley.  Admission is free.

    The relaxing afternoon includes entertainment, book sales and signings by three Simi Valley authors, self-paced tours of the decorated historical buildings and of course, Santa.

    Musical entertainment includes:

    • Bell Ringer Choir from the United Methodist Church at 12:30 p.m.
    • Conejo Valley Harmony Oaks Chorus at 1:45 p.m.
    • Caroling by Scouts and families around the park

    A special book signing opportunity offers autographs from three local authors: Patricia J. Havens, City Historian, Peter Conway and Wendy Varble will be on hand to sign their books.

    All books by Simi Valley’s City Historian, will be on sale; hardbound books are $10 off and soft cover editions $5 off.

    The featured books include:

    • “SIMI VALLEY – A Journey Through Time” – a 500 page, picture filled “encyclopedia” history of Simi Valley’s history (sale)
    • “THE STRATHEARN LETTERS, Windows on the Past” – contains nearly 400 full color pages of paintings, letters, political cartoons and photographs from the Strathearn family during early life in Simi and western United States (sale)
    • Two books recently published by Wendy Varble include – “The summer of 1934” and “The Pisgah Grande 1936”.  Both books chronicle life through intriguing stories told by her husband, local legend, Johnny Varble, who was born in Simi in 1928.

     

    • “Buckaroo Poetry” – a collection of cowboy poems for young and old, by award winning poet, P. W. Conway.
