Students to hold mobile business event Public can shop at Cal Lutheran – March 10th

    0

Six retail trucks selling clothes, yarn and other goods will be parked along Memorial Drive between Regent and Pioneer avenues on the Thousand Oaks campus from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The street will be blocked off so people from Cal Lutheran and the community can safely walk from truck to truck to shop.

In a new trend, business schools have been organizing mobile retail events to give students opportunities to engage with business owners and witness consumer behavior. The events provide a microcosm of the retail world where students can observe the shopping experience and the challenges of owning a business.

People began launching mobile retail businesses following the success of food trucks, and the number is growing. For entrepreneurs, retail trucks are a low-cost alternative to brick-and-mortar retail locations. Unlike e-commerce operations, they allow owners to interact face-to-face with customers and let customers see and touch the products. They also give owners the flexibility to put themselves in a variety of prime locations throughout a large area.

The trucks at the Cal Lutheran event will include the Yarnover Truck, Jennifer Lauren Boutique and Wear on Wheels, which specializes in styling and image consulting. Ginger’s Booty is a thrift and craft boutique, California Limited sells graphic T-shirts celebrating the Golden State, and The Library Store On Wheels carries an eclectic assortment of goods with a portion of its sales supporting the Los Angeles Public Library.
