California Lutheran University will present a free screening of a film about Sir Winston Churchill on Thursday, Feb. 16.

“Churchill: The One-Man Show” featuring Camarillo actor and producer Gary Saderup will be shown at 7 p.m. in Preus-Brandt Forum on the Thousand Oaks campus. After the screening, Cal Lutheran students will engage Saderup in a conversation about the film.

In a character study similar to Hal Holbrook’s one-man show portraying Mark Twain, Saderup provides an intimate portrait of one of the most towering figures of the 20th century. Released on DVD in 2015, the film focuses on the years between 1930 and 1942, including the lead-up to World War II and the statesman’s role in lifting Great Britain from its deepest despair to its greatest victory. He first served as prime minister from 1940 to 1945.

Saderup also produced and starred in “Douglas MacArthur: Return to Corregidor” in 2011 and “Lincoln: The One-Man Show” in 2012. He has played other historical characters including John Barrymore in “I Hate Hamlet” and Charles Darwin in the British play “Darwin in Malibu.” The veteran stage actor has also appeared as Macbeth, Othello and Richard III.

A Southern California native, he majored in illustration and film at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. He is also a portrait artist, specializing in charcoal drawings of celebrities, athletes and historical figures.

Preus-Brandt Forum is located at 135 Chapel Lane between Mountclef Boulevard and Campus Drive on Olsen Road.

Cal Lutheran’s History Department, History Club and Phi Alpha Theta history honors society are sponsoring the event.

The doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
