High Speed Pursuit ends in Arrest — Ventura

Ventura Police Department – Incident Press Release

On February 23rd at 3:11 PM, a Ventura Police officer observed a suspicious four door sedan in the area of Callens and Market Street. The officer attempted to make a traffic enforcement stop on the vehicle reference a vehicle code violation. The Driver, 35 year old Riverside resident, Michael Gil failed to stop. Gil continued driving and began accelerating at a high rate of speed while committing several traffic violations, including not stopping for red lights at several different intersections. Officers continued the pursuit eastbound Valentine Road where the pursuit was initially terminated due to public safety.

As Gil continued to drive at a high rate of speed eastbound Valentine Road, he lost control of his vehicle striking the north curb line of Valentine Road causing his vehicle to be inoperable. Gil exited his vehicle and fled via foot. Officers quickly set up a perimeter and located Gil hiding nearby where he was taken into custody. A records check of Gil revealed there was a felony no bail warrant for his arrest. Gil was also found to be in possession of Methamphetamine.

Gil was transported to Ventura County Jail where he was booked for felony evading, possession of a controlled substance and the felony no bail warrant. No officers or civilians were injured in the incident; Gil sustained a minor scratches and bruises from the traffic collision.
