    SANTA PAULA, CA – You’re invited to journey to “The Land of Light” at the Santa Paula Art Museum on Saturday, October 6, 2018, from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. Now in its second year, the one-night only event will encourage visitors to see and experience art in a whole new way. The Land of Light is inspired by artists of all ages and is designed to engage the community through interactive art installations including lighting effects, visual film graphics, and displays of science and technology. Admission to the event is free for everyone.

    The Land of Light will see the entire Santa Paula Art Museum campus transformed as it encompasses multiple indoor and outdoor spaces and spans from day to night. At sunset, a special “lighting ceremony” will activate monumental light and video projections, illuminating the variety of exhibitions on display. Exhibits range from two-dimensional works to three-dimensional sculptures, “art cars,” and more. A variety of maker stations will allow guests to interact with and add to the various artworks and displays. The event will also include a live DJ and performances by aerial and glow dancers.The Land of Light will feature exhibitions and performances by The Aerial Studio, Altarbeast, ATLAS Academy of Technology and Leadership, Boys and Girls Club of Santa Clara Valley, Carlos Grasso, CalArts alumni Kamyi Lee, R.S. Buck and Shan Wu, and many more.

    The Santa Paula Art Museum occupies two historic buildings located at 117 N 10th Street and 123 N 10th Street in downtown Santa Paula. The Museum features rotating exhibitions of vintage and contemporary art, art classes for children and adults, artist talks and demonstrations, musical performances, a gift shop, and more. Regular museum hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 10:00am to 4:00pm, and Sunday from 12:00pm to 4:00pm. Regular admission is $4.00 for adults, $3.00 for seniors, and free for students and museum members.     Description of event: In concert with her current exhibit, “Local Clay,” at the Santa Paula Art Museum, artist and CSUCI Assistant Professor of Art Marianne McGrath will lead students through techniques and concepts that she uses to unlock the unique, expressive potential of highly personalized, small scale ceramic works. Students will work clay and design a small piece to be fired off-site and picked up at the Museum. This is a class for adults age 16 and over.     Class: Printmaking Techniques (Ages 10-13)

    Description of event: Print like a pro! Learn the history, theory, tools and techniques of three basic printing processes: lino cuts, silkscreens and monotypes. Students will make original, reusable print forms and practice printmaking, all under the enthusiastic guidance of artist Lisa Ann Mahony. This is a class for kids age 10 to 13. All skill levels are welcome, and all supplies are provided. Pre-registration is required. This course must be taken as a four-part series.

    Description of event: Seasoned artist Ray Harris leads this four-part, in-depth painting workshop. Learn essential techniques for working in oils, practice color theory, composition and proportions, and how to finish a painting like a pro. For novice or expert, all levels welcome!     Description of event: This class is definitely not your grandmother’s kind of collage! Equal parts memory, curiosity, experiment and instinct, collage is a fascinating medium with endless potential for creative expression. In an ongoing series, artist Karen Browdy will share the essential skills, tools, and techniques needed to build a meaningful art practice in collage. Students will apply basic art theories using a variety of collage strategies and leave each session with their own personal creation. This is a class for adults age 16 and over.     Description of event: Be the first to see the Santa Paula Art Museum’s newest original exhibition, “The Wall: Boundaries Between and Within Us.” The group exhibition explores the nature of boundaries – lines that define, surround, protect, divide, include and exclude – whether real or imagined. In responding to the theme, the artists have created a thought-provoking collection of artworks that is simultaneously literal and metaphorical, social and personal, political and spiritual.

    Description of event: A rare opportunity! Follow photographer Luther Gerlach and witness the magic of historic photographic processes. Participants will get an up-close view of wet-collodion tintypes and salt print processes as Gerlach uses his mammoth-plate vintage camera to shoot at nearby locations. This demonstration is for adults age 16 and over. Please note that the demonstration will involve a fair amount of walking and standing outdoors. All skill levels are welcome.     Free Family Day: Día de los Muertos

    Description of event: Come and celebrate Día de los Muertos in Santa Paula on Sunday, November 4, 2018. Participating sites include the Santa Paula Art Museum, the Museum of Ventura County’s Agriculture Museum, the California Oil Museum, and Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery. This free, family-friendly event will include a day of traditional craft making, music, Aztec dancers, face painting, storytelling and altar installations. Día de los Muertos attire is encouraged! Visitors can begin at any of the participating locations and walk to the others. Pick up a Día de los Muertos passport and collect a stamp at each of the locations to enter into a free raffle drawing.
