L. Neil Smith’s THE LIBERTARIAN ENTERPRISE — To My Friends In France
By L. Neil Smith
To be absolutely truthful, I don’t know whether I have any friends in France. I’m not even sure I _know_ anyone in France. But I’m writing this open letter to advise all of you who would be my friends if I knew them, that altruism may be very well and good (mind you. I was educated otherwise) but I implore you not to allow strangers into your beautiful country who only want to destroy it. Don’t let them ruin the unique culture that all Americans (perhaps a tiny bit grudgingly) admire.
Your American friends (and I’m sure that you have legions of them) watched with horror as some of these strangers — radical Islamic terrorists, three words most politicians seem too cowardly to utter — filled the gentle Paris night with violence and bloodshed because, like wise Westerners everywhere (except, perhaps, in Sweden) you refused to comply with the barbaric customs they claimed a right to impose on everyone.
Now please let me remind you, as one “deplorable” to another: we, the French and Americans, have never fought a real war against each other. Instead, we have helped each other consistently over the centuries, you with our Rebellion against the British, we with the Germans in World Wars I and II. We were able to help for a simple reason. In 1917, every American male owned weapons, rifles, pistols, shotguns, even machine guns, and knew how to use them. In 1941, to some extent, that was still true. And at the time, you, yourselves, were fond of weapons of self-defense. Your inventors devised and manufactured many memorable ones.
You also gave the world wonderful, accurate, descriptive words like “cretin”, “moron”, “idiot” and “imbecile” — but failed to recognize such evolutionary failures when they took and held positions of authority in your government and social structure. Whoever, out of some seizure of left-wing exuberance, took your means of personal self-defense away from you, _created_ the current dangerous situation.
And you foolishly let them do it. It’s long past time to cast them all out and get yourself a gun. The simple awareness — that anyone and everyone whom Jihadist thugs and bullies might choose as a victim, has an effective weapon in their purse or pocket — will send them slinking off like the miserable poltroons they are. But you must refuse to be helpless. Do not allow yourself to be distracted by events like the recent school shooting in Grasse. We in the United States have long understood that such atrocities are often cold-bloodily arranged by the enemies of liberty. You must be willing to fight now, for France and for Western Civilization, as you have never fought.
It will help a great deal if you choose the brilliant Marine Le Pen to lead you in this crusade. She wants to put France first and refuse criminal intruders the evil power they crave. She has a beautiful niece, Marion Maréchal-Le Pen, the youngest member ever elected to Parliament, who is the living embodiment of Marianne. Most of my fellow Americans won’t know what that means, but I do.
“Allons, enfants de la Patrie!” Does the revolutionary ferocity of your national anthem still live?
