Man Found Guilty of 2009 Richardson Murder

VENTURA, California – District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced today that Glenn William Sires (DOB 6/23/70), of Simi Valley, was found guilty of one count of second-degree murder for the killing of 52-year-old Janice Richardson in Simi Valley on January 24, 2009. The jury was unable to reach a verdict on a second count of first-degree residential burglary.

During the early morning hours of January 24, 2009, Sires and co-defendant Idee Scholz entered Ms. Richardson’s home to steal items related to narcotics sales. During the burglary, an altercation ensued, and Sires and Scholz smothered Ms. Richardson to death. They staged the crime scene to look like a drug overdose. In March 2009, the Simi Valley Police Department received information that      Ms. Richardson had been murdered. A subsequent investigation determined that both Sires and Scholz were responsible for Ms. Richardson’s death.

A hearing is set for September 18, 2018, at 9:00 a.m. in courtroom 48 of the Ventura Superior Court, County of Ventura, to determine if Sires should be retried for first-degree residential burglary. The case against Scholz is expected to go to trial later this year. Sires faces a sentence of 15 years to life in prison.
