Michael Powers: The State of the County is Strong

VENTURA COUNTY – “The state of the county is strong as we continue to respond to the impact of the Thomas Fire, balance social safety, and health services” said Michael Powers, CEO for Ventura County, at his July 19th joint presentation to the Camarillo, Oxnard, Ventura Chambers of Commerce and the Ventura County Taxpayer’s Association.

 

 Board direction and support resulted in:

▪ Maintained and Strengthened Services

▪ Management of Expanded Responsibilities in Safety, Social and Health Services

▪ Investments in Facilities, Technology,People, and New Innovative Programs

▪ AAA Long Term Credit Rating

▪ Increased Reserves – 51m increase in Rainy Day Fund Last 6 years

Michael Powers became the County Executive Officer for Ventura County in April of 2011. In this role he oversees a budget of over $2 billion, and nearly 9,000 employees in 27 agencies and departments. His responsibilities include overseeing and supporting all major county functions and services including budget, finance, legislation, human resources, labor relations, economic development and information technology. Regarding his role, Mr. Powers stated, “our goal is to break the cycle of economic poverty. We have taxpayer dollars at work, we want them to know we work for the tax payer and provide good service to the community.”
