On May 10, 2019, deputies responded to the 200 block of Avenida De La Verda in Ojai, for a report of a family member causing a disturbance at the residence. Deputies contacted the reporting family member and noticed she was holding a small dog wrapped in a towel. Deputies soon learned, (S) 29 year old Daniel Vincent Vigil, had stabbed their family dog with a knife.
When deputies attempted to contact Vigil at his residence, they discovered he had fled on foot. After an extensive search for Vigil, deputies found Vigil hiding in a nearby barranca. Vigil was arrested without incident.
On May 11th, 2019, a veterinary doctor had to humanely euthanized the dog because of the severity of the injuries.
The District Attorney’s Office filed PC 597(a), Animal Cruelty with prison prior (PC 667.5(b)),PC 136.1(b)(1), Intimidating a Witness or Victim, PC 135, Bribing a Witness, and PC 591.5, Removing a Communication Device from the Victim against Vigil, with an enhancement for using a weapon during the commission of a crime. Vigil is in custody at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility with bail set at $30,000.00.
