Oxnard Man Charged with Murder for April Shooting at Hollywood Beach

VENTURA, California – District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced today that Jorge Francisco Ortega (DOB 11/20/1997) of Oxnard, has been charged with the premeditated first-degree murder of Jose Lopez (DOB 10/26/1995), also of Oxnard, by personal use a firearm. A special circumstance alleging the murder was committed for the benefit of a criminal street gang carries a potential sentence of death or life without the possibility of parole.  Ortega remains in custody at the Ventura County Jail without bail. Ortega’s arraignment on the charges was continued to June 12, 2018, in Department 12 at 9:00 a.m. 

On the night of April 22, 2018, Lopez was shot multiple times in a parking lot at end of the 2900 block of Ocean Drive. The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Oxnard Police Department.
