Oxnard Public Safety, Police and Fire, endorses Lopez for Mayor in Oxnard Special Recall Election

Oxnard’s Police and Fire Unions are proud to announce their support and endorsement for Oxnard Mayoral Candidate Dr. Miguel Lopez, in the upcoming Oxnard Special Recall Election.

“Having the support of public safety is important for any candidate seeking public office.  It is more than an endorsement, it is their vote of confidence in our shared vision for a safer and stronger Oxnard” said Lopez who is challenging Oxnard Mayor Tim Flynn.

“We are here in support of Miguel for Mayor.  We are confident Miguel will bring changes to the City of Oxnard, unite the residents, and help drive a positive change for our families, our city, and for our future,” said Blair Martin, Oxnard Firefighters Association President.

IAFF 1684 represents all firefighters, engineers, inspectors, environmental specialist, and captains in the Oxnard Fire Department.  Oxnard Firefighters Association is affiliated with the International Association of Fire Fighters, California Professional Firefighters, and the Central Coast Labor Council (formerly known as the Tri-Counties Central Labor Council.)

“We know him. We’ve all worked with him. We trust him, and we respect him. He has earned our vote of confidence, and we strongly encourage you to give Miguel Lopez your support for Mayor of Oxnard,” added Martin.

Similarly, the Oxnard Peace Officers Association also backed Lopez in 2016, and once again have endorsed his candidacy and are supporting his campaign.

“The 2015-16 City Budget championed by Mayor Flynn had a devastating effect on public safety.  It laid off our booking officers and eliminated current vacancies taking our personnel from 253 down to 237 sworn officers.  This was equivalent to losing over 600 less hours of pro-active community policing per week.  We are looking forward to working with a true champion for public safety that puts all of us and your family’s safety first,” said OPOA President Mike Johnson.

It is the mission of the Oxnard Peace Officers Association assure a better quality of life for its members and the citizens of Oxnard through proactive community involvement.

“The OPOA is proud to endorse candidates who we feel will better serve our community, have the insight and experience to make the tough decisions as elected leaders, and who have the vision to ensure our community is safe so that residents can live long, healthy, and prosperous lives.

That candidate for us is Miguel Lopez,” added Johnson.

“I am truly grateful to have earned the support of our Oxnard Police, Oxnard Fire, and our first-responders.  And, I look forward to continuing to build our community partnerships that will enhance our public safety and quality of life for everyone who lives, works, and visits Oxnard” Lopez said.

Oxnard Police and Fire Personnel will be walking neighborhoods and speaking with voters in support of Lopez.  The Oxnard Special Recall Election will be held Tuesday, May 1, 2018.

OPOA, IAFF Local 1684 and the Lopez Campaign are encouraging Oxnard voters to Vote ‘Yes’ to Recall Tim Flynn, and Vote ‘Miguel Lopez’ for Mayor.
