On Friday, June 3rd at 3:30AM, Ventura patrol officers responded to an alarm activation within a classroom at Cabrillo Middle School, 1426 E. Santa Clara Street.

As officers arrived on scene they began to check the exterior of the classroom and found a sliding glass door that had been tampered with.  As officers were attempting to establish a perimeter around the classroom, the suspect, Christopher Hale exited an adjacent door then quickly retreated back inside.

A Ventura Police K9 officer was summoned to the scene and Hale was ordered to exit the classroom.  Hale refused to comply with officers commands and the K9 was deployed into the interior.  Hale was found hiding to the rear of the classroom and was taken into custody with the assistance of the K9.

Officers continued their search and located a second suspect, Dorinda Betts hiding in a small cabinet.   Betts was taken into custody without incident.

Hale was transported to VCMC for treatment of his injuries from the dog bite.  After he was medically cleared, Hale was booked into the Ventura County Jail for commercial burglary, felony conspiracy to commit a crime, possession of a burglary tools, resisting arrest and an outstanding warrant.

Betts was booked into the Ventura County Jail for commercial burglary and felony conspiracy.

I am the son of Dorinda Betts and I’m glad that K-9 tore up Chris because he’d been abusing my mother for a long time and it was about time he got what was coming to him.

Does he think so un-clearly that he doesn’t know that he is committing a felony?

They were just found casing my workplace with baseball bats yesterday morning so his injuries must have healed well enough to go back to “work”

What should be reported here is the Police had no reason to deploy a K-9 on a Victim of a horrific vehicle accident who suffered a Tramatic Brain Injury. This kid does’nt alway think clearly when spoken to. I promise you had they had a K-9 at the door where they wanted him to surrender with a K-9 Barking and growling he would have come right out.

Instead the release this K-9 to mangle both of arms where now he will most likely suffer some type of permanent nerve damage. THAT is rediculous and, I hope and I will Pray he gets compensated
for this type of wanton disregard of the Ventura PoliceDepartment the people that we pay to protect us.
