Port Hueneme City Manager Announces Community Survey

We all agree that Port Hueneme is a wonderful community in which to live, do business, and visit.

As we approach our upcoming mid-term budget review, please know the City is committed to continuing to provide the quality of life services you expect and deserve. Unfortunately, we’ve been hurt by State money grabs.  Ever since the State eliminated local funding, Port Hueneme started losing nearly one million dollars every year.  Since then, we’ve reduced the number of our employees by nearly 20% by consolidating work and adjusting unfilled jobs. We have also deferred important maintenance, and made deep cuts to public services. Despite this, we still have a structural deficit of nearly a million dollars. There is no more room to cut and still provide quality public services.

Earlier this year, the City commissioned a community survey.  We were thrilled that almost 4/5ths of our residents indicated our City provides a high quality of life with excellent city services. Priorities identified by residents include:

Provide quick responses to 9-1-1 emergencies

Prevent gang activity and drug related crimes

Maintaining streets and repairing potholes

Providing police services, including crime prevention and investigations

Repair and maintain buildings and infrastructure, including sidewalks, curbs, and gutters

Protecting and preserving our local police department

Modernizing technology and city infrastructure

Investing in city efficiency

Protecting our local property values

I value additional feedback from our community as we undertake this year’s budget planning process.  The City is committed to continuing to reflect your priorities so we can make prudent and wise investments in our future and maintain our quality of life.

Please join the conversation TODAY. Please share what is important to you by completing the online survey. Thank you for your feedback!
