Rose Valley Falls Nature Hike on Sunday, April 9

    0

Ojai native plant educator Lanny Kaufer will lead his annual Nature Hike to Rose Valley Falls on Sunday, April 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participants will experience a local scenic wonder and learn about Rose Valley’s diverse plant communities. The day will begin with a plant identification hike along Howard Creek, then a stop at Upper Rose Valley Lake followed by a lunch break at Rose Valley Campground and a shaded walk of 0.5 mile each way to the Falls.

On Howard Creek the group will see edible and medicinal herbs such as Stinging Nettle, Elderberry, and Mugwort. The first Wild Rose blossoms of the season may also make an appearance. Hikers will see and smell aromatic California Bay trees and search for the elusive Sweet Cicely and California Violet on the trail to the Falls.

The day will begin with an optional carpool from the Maricopa Plaza parking lot at 9:00 a.m. and return there by 3 p.m. The cost is $25 for adults, $20 for seniors 62-and-older, and $15 for students 13-18. Kids 5-12 can go free, one per adult, by prior arrangement. Toddlers must be in a carrier. No dogs or smoking, please. Registrants will receive a confirmation email with all necessary info.
