    Santa Paula Concert Series Presentation: John Biggs—How He Sets Words to Music

    The Santa Paula Concert Series hosts a presentation by Composer John Biggs of Ojai on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 7:00 PM. John will share with us how he sets words to music with an entertaining presentation. Admission is $10 donation at the door, from the church office during office hours, or by PayPal on the church’s website: www.uucsp.org/SP-Concert-Series. Credit cards, checks and cash are accepted at the door. Children 12 and under are free. Seating is first come, first served. Proceeds benefit the Universalist Unitarian Church of Santa Paula Building and Historical Fund.

    The Universalist Unitarian Church of Santa Paula has been home to a number of musical events throughout its 128-year history. UUCSP is a registered Ventura County Historical Landmark.     BIO: JOHN BIGGS, COMPOSER

    John Biggs was born in Los Angeles on October 18, 1932. He received his Masters degree in composition from the University of California at Los Angeles, doing further study at the University of Southern California and the Royal Flemish Conservatory in Antwerp, Belgium. His teachers included Roy Harris, Lukas Foss, Ingolf Dahl, Flor Peeters, Halsey Stevens and Leonard Stein. As an educator, he has taught at Los Angeles City College, UCLA and UC Berkeley. He also served as a composer-in-residence to six colleges in Kansas under a grant from the Department of Health, Education and Welfare. As a performer, he founded the John Biggs Consort, which toured internationally under Columbia Artists Management, specializing in medieval, renaissance, and twentieth century music. As a composer, he has won numerous awards and honors including a Rockefeller Grant, Fulbright Grant, Atwater-Kent Award, ASCAP “Serious Music Award” and a number of “Meet the Composer” grants from diverse parts of the United States.
