By Sheryl Hamlin

At the May 21, 2018 Santa Paula City Council meeting, José Luis Melgar, Vice-Chair of the Measure T Commission presented a status report including the following:

-Status of Measure T Sales Tax Revenue for the Period April 1, 2017 to March 31, 2018
-The Upcoming Annual Report
-The 2018/2019 Allocation Recommendations

The Measure T Commission allocations were: 50% Police, 27% Youth Services, and 15% Public Works (streets and roads). The Youth Services monies are to be held until the needs assessment is complete. Council Member Hernandez asked about the “bait and switch rumor” regarding the Fire Department, to which José Luis Melgar said the committee was “mostly happy about how money was spent”. Council Member Procter said this was a “well thought out report”. Mayor Gherardi said that the feedback she hears is for more money into the roads.

The report also included the history of the commission, its goals and the demographic composition of its board.
