Simi Valley | Citizen involvement helps lead to arrest of juvenile robbery suspect

Simi Valley Police Department – Incident Press Release
.

On May 10, 2018 in the early afternoon hours, two Simi Valley juveniles were robbed of their cell phones while hanging out at a local Starbucks. The juveniles were approached near the parking lot by a juvenile female who allegedly presented a small knife and demanded their cell phones. After taking their phones, the juvenile female was reported to have fled the area with two other juvenile friends, both wearing distinct clothing. The juvenile victims were not physically hurt during this incident.

When Simi Valley Police Officers arrived on scene they spoke with multiple citizens at and around the Starbucks. Upon learning what happened, many citizens spent extra time with officers describing what they had seen and went on to provide detailed descriptions of the suspect and her associates’ attire. In fact, officers went on to learn that one citizen in particular had even tried to assist the victims with finding the suspect and loaned his personal phone so the juveniles could contact their parents.

Due to the detailed descriptions provided by the victims, the citizens, and the evidence collected on scene by police personnel, the suspect and her associates were seen walking down Los Angeles Avenue a mere two hours later. All three were stopped and after being positively identified by the victims, the female juvenile suspect was arrested for two counts of 602 WIC/211 PC-Juvenile Robbery. Even better was the fact that she was still in possession of both cell phones and as such, both phones were returned to their rightful owners!

The Simi Valley Police Department wants to extend a very special thank you to all of the citizens who took time out of their busy day yesterday to help two juveniles in need as well as sending a strong message to any criminal who thinks they can do whatever they want. Well, “not in our town!”
