The Simi Valley Interfaith Community Council (SVICC) is sponsoring the 1st “Unity Project Walk” to be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Lemon Park (Rancho Tapo Park), 3700 Avenida Simi, Simi Valley.  Registration is free, and starts at 9:00 am.  Participants will receive a “Unity Project” cap.

The purpose the Simi Valley “Unity Project Walk” is to promote friendship and unity among all peoples of the community.  The event will take place on the walking trail within the park, which is child-friendly and handicap accessible. Participants are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch and stay after the walk to get to know others.    Music, desserts and bottled water will be provided.

After the walk, participants are encouraged to eat lunch together and socialize in the park Pavilion. “This event is modeled after the very popular annual “Harmony Walk”, held in Sydney, Australia.” states Phyllis Oskooie, SVICC coordinator. “Harmony Walk” invites friends, neighbors’ and colleagues to celebrate the shared value that everyone belongs.  It’s a fun filled day as the walkers from various communities build relationships across cultures and celebrating the diversity and pluralism that makes Australia a great nation.   We want to do the same thing in Simi Valley.” Oskooie continues.

The 2017 Unity Project Walk is hosted by the Baha’i Faith of Simi Valley.

On Sunday, October 22, 2017 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm, the public is invited to attend a celebration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Baha’u’llah, who is the prophet founder of the Bahá’í Faith. It will be held at the Simi Valley Senior Center located at 3900 Avenida Simi, Simi Valley, CA 93063.  The event is free and open to the public.
