Simi Valley Police Department Hosts Senior Driver Education Class–66 attendees received Attendance Certification!
66 senior drivers attended a Senior Driver Education class put on by the Simi Valley Police Traffic Bureau yesterday at the Simi valley Police Station.
The first part of the class focused on statistical data about the reasons drivers collided with each other in Simi Valley, and what to do if drivers are involved in a crash. The common “primary collision factors” were discussed as well as pedestrian safety techniques.
Mr. Ayala then spent a great portion of time refreshing the drivers with certain rules of the road and techniques to stay safe. One of them was the “SMOG” technique: Signal, Mirror, Over the Shoulder and Go, teaching them an easy to remember process to make a safe lane change.
Ms. Thompson then spent time discussing all the ways the DMV can make it easier on senior drivers to renew their licenses; how to use the touch-screen test machine; how to properly and legally use a disabled placard and many other valuable tools to navigate the Department of Motor Vehicles. Low cost transportation options were also provided.
At the end of the class, drivers were provided a certificate of completion that can be presented to their insurance company for a potential discount on their car insurance. This program could not have been successful without the assistance and teamwork provided by the DMV and the California Office of Traffic Safety.
The Traffic Bureau will host another class later this year, stay tuned to our Nixle and Facebook pages.
