Spotlight on Public Service | Home Smoke Installation by Port Hueneme PD

On Saturday, June 30th, Port Hueneme Police Department Reserve Officers Frank Montelongo and Janette Lujan, along with the Ventura County Fire Department, Port Hueneme Citizen Corps, Port Hueneme Police Explorers, and volunteers from Port Hueneme LISTOS, participated in the Port Hueneme Home Smoke Alarm Installation Program.

Teams of volunteers canvassed neighborhoods surrounding Parkview Elementary and visited approximately 200 homes, installing 109 free smoke alarms in 36 of those homes.

This was truly a community based effort that greatly increased the safety of our residents.

Anyone who would like more information about this program or fire prevention in general can contact Ventura County Fire Department Smoke Alarm Coordinator Fred Ponce at 805-914-8502 or by e-mail at
