Stakeout of prior DUI driver nets arrest for driving on a suspended license

DUI Offender Arrested for Driving with a Suspended License during Stakeout Operation 

Simi Valley, CA – On August 7, 2018 at approximately 7:00 a.m., the Simi Valley Police Department working a special DUI / Suspended Driver Operation targeting repeat DUI / Suspended Driving offenders conducted surveillance at the residence of a previously arrested DUI driver. While watching the location, officers observed a suspect who had a suspended driving privilege drive away from the home. 

Joshua Dennis Bowden, 29 years old, from Simi Valley, was observed leaving his home driving a 2017 Kia Optima and was detained by Simi Valley Police Officers for his suspended license violation. A DUI evaluation was conducted and he was not impaired. He was arrested and released at the scene for driving with a suspended license. The vehicle he was driving was impounded for a maximum of 30-days. 

The Simi Valley Police Department Traffic Bureau maintains a list of all DUI drivers arrested and on probation of those residing in Simi Valley. Drivers with multiple convictions or with prior arrests with high blood alcohol levels are then evaluated for potential risk to the motoring public. Those drivers determined to be the highest risk to public safety are then targeted for surveillance under the Habitual DUI Driver Stakeout Program. 

These stakeout operations are being conducted to prevent the tragedy associated with the violent crime of drunk or drugged driving. Funding for these operations has been provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Report Drunk Drivers; Call 911!
