Suspect steals biker’s backpack in Ventura

On February 12th at 8 PM, the Ventura Police Command Center received a 911 call from a victim who reported to have just been robbed while on the bike path just west of Shoshone Street. 

Responding officers learned the victim was riding his bike south on the path when he was approached by the suspect who demanded the victim’s phone.  When the victim refused to relinquish his phone, the suspect produced a knife and brandished it at the victim.  Fearing for his safety, the victim ran from the area leaving his property behind.  The suspect grabbed the victim’s backpack and was last seen riding a bicycle south on the bike path.

Officers began a search of the area and located the suspect a short time later near West Park.  Upon seeing the officers, the suspect fled on foot across Highway 33 and into the Ventura River bottom.  The officers were able to recover the stolen backpack which was returned to the victim. 

Suspect(s):  HM, Mid 20s, 5’5, wearing black hat, white striped shirt and blue jeans
