At least 13 dead as heavy rains trigger flooding, mudflows, freeway closures across Southern California

MONTECITO, Calif. — At least thirteen people were killed Tuesday when a rainstorm sent mud and debris coursing through Montecito neighborhoods and left rescue crews to scramble through clogged roadways and downed trees to search for victims.

California mudslides demolish homes, five deaths reported

Mudlsides unleashed by a ferocious storm demolished homes in southern California, authorities said Tuesday. Five people were reported killed. Santa Barbara County Fire Department (SBCFD) says the bodies were discovered in mud and debris during rescue operations in Montecito, northwest of Los Angeles, according to various reports.
