Taste of Conejo 2015 – A Culinary and Wine Connoisseurs Dream Come True
By Raven West
Nearly every winery in Ventura County was on hand to fill the glasses of more than 1,000 culinary and wine connoisseurs who attended the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce 7th Annual “Taste of Conejo” at the Four Seasons hotel in Westlake Village.
VIP attendances who arrived an hour early were treated to a wide variety of local foods, beers and wines from more than 50 vendors who were on hand inside the grand ballroom and outside on the patio. Once the main event began, everyone was thoroughly entertained by The Company Men, who performed live on-stage.
Food selections varied from a very non-traditional grilled cheese sandwich from Andres 805 Bar and Grilled Cheese in Ventura to a sample of “comfort food” mac n’ cheese from Missions Oaks Café, Camarillo, to the more exotic bites of elk and foie gras prepared by Nicolas and the chefs at University Village in Thousand Oaks and a Sushi cone from Q Sushi Kieu Hoang, a new wine lounge opening soon in Westlake Village.
Local wineries took the opportunity to showcase their favorites while others like David Whittemore from Herzog Wine Cellars introduced their new PV label.
The event was also the perfect showcase for NABU Wine, the “new kid on the block” and owners Janet and Greg Barnett to introduce their selections, including a Pinot Grigio which paired delightfully well with Paul Martin’s American Grill’s smoked salmon.
There wasn’t any competition at this event. No “best of” or awards, which allowed the presenters to relax and enjoy simply interacting with the guests and showing off their very best “tastes of Conejo” and Ventura.
They certainly succeeded!
