The Santa Paula Art Museum will host an evening of incredible live music featuring Ventura band “The Barrelhouse Wailers” on Saturday, September 12, 2015 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Admission to the concert is $15.00 for the general public and $10.00 for members of the Santa Paula Art Museum.

The Barrelhouse Wailers serve up their own take on Prohibition era hot jazz and blues music of the 1920s and 1930s. They perform only on acoustic instruments to retain the authentic sound of that period. The Wailers bring their passion and energy to the style, making it as fresh today as it was when it was the newest, hottest dance music 90 years ago! They have been influenced by a cocktail of artists, past and present, like Bessie Smith, Ella Fitzgerald, Asylum Street Spankers, Gershwin, Sydney Bechet, Billie Holiday as well as traditional New Orleans jazz, classic blues, country blues and jug band sounds.

The band was formed in the spring of 2012 by guitarist Wayne Philipp and singer Karen Parkhouse who wanted to perform the pre-WWII jazz and blues that they both loved. The duo soon found likeminded musicians and established their current lineup by the end of that year. Featuring a lineup of 6 to 9 musicians, they began performing shows in January 2013 and have been playing steadily around Ventura and Los Angeles ever since.

The Barrelhouse Wailers features vocalist Karen Parkhouse, Wayne Philipp on guitar and banjo, David L. White on harmonica and mandolin, Diamono Andreo on drums, David Leoncavallo on bass, Jim Wade on tuba, Alethea Lamb on clarinet, Andrew Chermak on trumpet/cornet, and Andrew Conchelos on trombone.
