The Comey Hysteria: a Crack in the Left’s Armor

By Mike Smith

The Left values power and influence over goodness and truth. It’s not so much that James Comey was fired as FBI Director —his own statements make clear he had it coming— but how the Left is reacting to it and why. This is the big revealer, and it very much affects us. Here’s the not-so-open secret the Left is afraid of you knowing: a person’s true character is seen in how he or she reacts to unexpected events, not through prepared, likely responses. The only reason why the Democratic Party is melting down over Comey’s firing is because it was President Trump who fired Comey. The Left was ready, willing and able to welcome Clinton as Comey’s ouster.

The double standard that the Left applies from hysteria to hysteria is the story behind the story of James Comey’s removal. It is the aggressive, hypocritical hysterics of the Left that affect us where we live, not Mr. Comey’s firing or what led to it. In the grand scheme of things, Comey rose up and fell amid a divided society too busy at war with itself to be bothered by him. Some argue against this, citing Comey’s decision to re-open the investigation of Hillary Clinton as having changed the presidential election’s outcome. But frankly, Clinton was so widely disliked as a candidate that no one will ever know. What we can know (and should) is that James Comey was publicly disliked by powerful Democrats, not just Republicans. Among the critics are Democratic senators Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi, not to mention former Clinton campaign manager John Podesta. A rational human would think the Democratic Party now has good reason to celebrate Comey’s firing. Indeed, it does. But the Democratic Party’s leaders are instead frantically trying to bury the public record of their own anti-Comey statements vis-à-vis the mainstream media.

To the Left, progress (if that’s what you can call it) is not about values or goodness but position and control. And from Capitol Hill down to us, every powerful Democrat banks on those among us who rely on mainstream media headlines to “inform” them, willfully ignoring the truth hiding behind the Left’s reactions. Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, John Podesta —and other powerful, public anti-Comey leftists— would not have openly criticized Mr. Comey had they known Hillary Clinton would lose the election. But when now-President Trump overtook Comey as a threat to the Democratic Party’s agenda, the Left “forgave” Comey of his sins all of a sudden.

The Left’s hypocritical hysteria ploy works the same way every time: create a hysteria so that no wrongdoings must be admitted, plausible deniability advances, and counter-accusations dominate broad media narratives. Right now, Senator Schumer is showing this tactic off. Schumer knows full well there’s still no evidence proving Russia colluded with President Trump in the election. Guess what, folks: that will not stop him. By mixing one hysteria in with another, Schumer seeks to kill public record of the actual misdeeds between Clinton and Russia that predate 2016. This is one of the Left’s many realpolitik tactics that affects most the “little guy” folks whom they claim to support. But they do not support us. And neither do those who are among us but not of us because they endure hysterics as victims, not fighters.
