Undercover Reunion Book Signing – Better Response than Movie

By Raven West

To celebrate the premier of the movie “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” Panaro Brothers presented OPEN CHANEL D – A BOOK SIGNING EVENT with Author Raven West signing her newly released novel Undercover Reunion.

David Panaro poured a taste of his Napoleon Solo (Doucette), Illya Kuryakin (Moscato) and the Alexander Waverly (dry Riesling champagne) to the guests and also and offered a 20% discount to everyone who purchased a book.

We had a lot of fun even though those of us who went to the early showing on Thursday night of the movie were very disappointed.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E. movie is all MAN (two and one woman) and NO U.N.C.L.E. Except for the title and the names of the characters and, I believe three seconds of the theme heard over a car radio, there is nothing at all any fan of the old TV series would recognize. Even the anagram is never explained except as a “code word” spoken by “Waverly” (no first name here). Gabby is revealed to be working for him, but as what and for what is never explained.

As a stand-alone movie, it was OK. Mixing James Bond with USA’s White Collar, but with not one ounce of creativity or humor with wooden characters and horrific “60s” costumes. The soundtrack, mostly in Italian (I think) was horrific.

I wasn’t expecting much, and I wasn’t disappointed. For a true U.N.C.L.E. story that pays homage to all things of the original series, read “Undercover Reunion” by Raven West. Now that’s a movie I WOULD pay $15.00 to see…. TWICE!

Thanks to all who attended the book signing last night. If you missed it, I’ll be at Bank of Books on main street in Ventura on September 19th from 3-5.
