United Aerospace Workers Local 887 Endorses Bryan Caforio

Bryan Caforio, candidate in California’s 25th Congressional District, received the endorsement of the International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW) Local 887.

The members of United Aerospace Workers Local 887 have led our nation’s aerospace program for decades, creating jobs right here in California’s 25th Congressional District. NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center in the Antelope Valley employs nearly 600 people alone. UAW members have also been instrumental in building the B-1 bombers and the experimental X-15 rocket-powered aircraft.

Joe Padilla, President of UAW Local 887, said, “Our members worked very hard to build the main engines of the Saturn Rockets that placed men on the moon and returned them home safely. We built the entire Space Shuttle Fleet here in the Antelope Valley, and we tested the Space Shuttle Main Engines in the Santa Susana Pass. It is with great pride that we endorse Bryan Caforio and help launch his endeavor as the next Congressman of California’s 25th Congressional District.”

“The aerospace industry is the backbone of the Antelope Valley’s economy, and I could not be more honored to have the support of the men and women who have been at the forefront of space exploration and innovation,” said Caforio. “In Congress, I will fight tooth and nail against Trump’s plan to slash investments in scientific research, including NASA funding, which not only creates jobs right here in our district but also makes the United States a leader in scientific discovery.”

Despite being in the race just five weeks, Caforio has been endorsed by Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers Local 105, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 40, and United Association Local 761. California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom, twenty-five local elected and appointed officials in the district, and Newhall School District Board President Christy Smith have also endorsed Caforio. With 17 months until the election, polling shows Caforio tied with the Republican incumbent.

The son of two public school teachers, Caforio was born and raised in Southern California, attended UCLA and Yale Law School, worked for a United States federal judge, and practices as an attorney taking on some of the world’s biggest banks and corporations. Bryan lives in Santa Clarita with his wife Lisa, who serves as a Deputy City Attorney at the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office.

California’s 25th Congressional District covers northern Los Angeles County and part of Ventura County, including the Santa Clarita Valley, Antelope Valley, and Simi Valley. Hillary Clinton won the district by more than six points in 2016, registered Democrats outnumber registered Republicans, and the district is majority-minority. The district is now considered a “toss-up” and is held by Tea Party Republican Steve Knight, whom national Republicans have publicly identified as one of their most vulnerable incumbents.

One Response to United Aerospace Workers Local 887 Endorses Bryan Caforio

Since we are talking about aerospace and the people who do the work, why not consider that the U.S. House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology today unanimously approved H.R. 2763, the Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer Improvements Act of 2017, sponsored by U.S. Rep. Steve Knight (R-Calif.)
The press release by Caforio makes one think unions did all the work and the hard-working executives and non-union employees sat around and contributed nothing.
Unions should not be in politics. Forcing workers to join a union and pay union dues, then use their money to elect liberal lawyers to support those unions is citizen abuse.
