Update on Port Hueneme Residents’ Top 5 Concerns | Survey

- Smelly Air and Noise – Air quality somewhat better the last couple of weeks due to new chemical treatment at wastewater plant. I drove down Perkins Rd Thursday and could smell some odors right between the two plants. Haven’t had any reports about the noise for a few days. If any smells or noise appear please post and report. 1A- Budget should improve with income from the cannabis industry which is starting off very well.

- The council and mayor have this as a priority, studies have been done and they must decide what plan to go with, it seems the overall idea is to lower residential rates and and increase business and industrial rates.

- Security cameras and better lighting are scheduled this Spring for the beach and Moranda Park

- Traffic enforcement is being increased soon with the addition of another officer focusing on speeding and other residential and school streets to be studied for safety changes if necessary. I believe police salaries are in some type of arbitration with the city

- The homeless situation has no strategy so far and the homeless still tend to move around. The issue is on the council list to stay on top of it until something is found that could work. Code and Parking enforcement are on Mayor Berg’s priority list to become more responsive to residents complaints and to see that neighborhoods are properly taken care of. A new employee in the public works dept will focus on graffiti, litter and other jobs that need attending to keep our city clean and beautiful. We can do our part when we are out and about by picking up litter and notifying the PW and/or PD of anything that needs attention.
