Vagrant stabs man in Mission Park, Ventura

On 08/11/17 at approx. 9AM, the Ventura Police Department Command Center received a call from the Ventura County Medical Center Emergency Room staff who reported a male stabbing victim was currently seeking treatment.  Officers arrived and contacted the victim who was found to be suffering from a single, non-life threatening stab wounds to his torso.

During the investigation, officers learned the victim and an acquaintance were walking in Mission Park, 185 East Santa Clara Avenue, when they were approached by the suspect, Martha Berber, Ventura Vagrant.  Berber confronted the victim and demanded his belongings while brandishing a knife.  Berber became upset and stabbed the victim after he refused to relinquish his property.  Berber fled the area on foot after the altercation and officers were unsuccessful in locating her at that time.

On 08/12/17 at approx. 7AM, officers were on an unrelated call on the bike path near West Park Row when they observed Berber.  Berber was contacted and placed under arrest without incident.  She was later transported to the Ventura County Jail where she was booked for assault with a deadly weapon and robbery.
