Ventura Fire Crew Rescues Family Dog from Blaze

On May 9th at 1:04PM Units responded to a reported residential structure fire, the first arriving engine company reported heavy smoke showing from the first floor of a two-story single-family residence, with occupants out but family dog unaccounted for, then immediately began setting up for an interior fire attack.

Additional engine companies and one truck company arrived shortly thereafter to assist in establishing a hydrant water supply, establishing a back-up team, and performing ventilation. The fire, contained to the kitchen, was quickly knocked down, having been kept in check by the existing sprinkler system.

The missing dog was located within the residence, having been overcome by smoke, and it was successfully revived by fire personnel at the scene using pet-specific oxygen equipment.

After a thorough overhaul, salvage measures were employed to help mitigate smoke damage, and water damage from sprinkler flow. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, no other injuries were reported at the time of this release.
