Ventura Fire knockdown blaze at duplex

On January 11th at 2:37 PM, Ventura City Fire personnel responded to multiple reports of a structure fire secondary to an explosion, with burn victims and persons trapped.

The first arriving engine reported a single-story duplex structure well involved with fire. Attack/rescue crews entered the burning unit, while exposure protection crews defended the adjoining unit as well as additional, detached units nearby. Support companies performed vertical ventilation on the roof, coordinated closely with fire attack crews inside, effectively improving the atmosphere and allowing rapid knockdown of the heavy fire conditions being encountered inside the structure.

One adult female victim with minor burn injuries was treated and released at the scene, having refused transport. Fire knockdown was achieved approximately 12 minutes after the arrival of the first engine. Damage to the duplex was extensive, rendering it able to be unsuitable to be occupied, six adults and two children were assisted by Red Cross.

No other injuries were reported at the time of this release.
